Piano Lessons

a student playing and taking piano lessons in portland OR

Denise’s passion for teaching piano lessons in Portland, OR is far beyond any other in the area. The student’s she teaches range in age from 3 to 83 and from beginner to advanced. No matter the skill level and style you want to learn, Denise, at Destination Music Education, can take you there.

Denise attends yearly conferences that keep her up to date on all the newest resources available to piano teachers and the best of the best is regularly incorporated into the studio.  She has carefully selected the newest, best, and most innovative methods for preschoolers, grade school, high school, college music majors, and adult hobby musicians.  Lessons include theory, ear training, chord and scale recognition, composition, and relaxed expressive technique.

Lessons are kept fun by using coloring, stuffed animals, and rhythm instruments for younger students, and allowing older students to supplement their core studies by choosing some of their own music. Whether it is Classical, Jazz, Pop, or Church Worship music that most interests them, Denise will work with them and help them to excel.  Measurable accomplishments are celebrated and incentives reward hard work.  Twice yearly recitals have the atmosphere of a party where everyone gets to play the piano, and awards are given out at that time.

When taking piano lessons from Denise, parents are welcome to attend the lessons with their child. Even if parents choose not to stay, open communication between parents and teacher is encouraged by having parents sign the assignment sheet and having a place to write a note from teacher to parent or from parent to teacher.

Denise’s Portland piano classes consist of 30 or 45 minute sessions, once a week. Since Denise is one of the best piano teachers in Portland she goes out of her way to ensure the students learn and have fun with their piano lessons. During the lesson, new concepts are rehearsed and reviewed and strategies for at home practice are discussed.  At least 5 days of at home practice each week is expected and if you practice the way Denise suggests,  you can be assured, you will make very good progress.
